Being an adult is hard. I love to draw, paint and fiddle with photoshop whenever I'm not having to work at my day job. I'm trying to go to school to get my art degree so that I can change my day job to art and not flipping burgers. :P

Breaking Free by RachaelSelk
Breaking Free
A friend of mine was going through a lot of really hard stuff in her life. She had asked me before all her hardships if I could draw or paint her a cardinal. But once I realized what she was going through I could only picture her as the cardinal and taking off in flight and letting all the bad stuff happening to her just falling off. This is what I came up with, and she Loves it!

Penny Tattoo by RachaelSelk
Penny Tattoo
A co-worker of mine wanted a tattoo that was watercolor and a penny. This is what I came up with. I ended up using ink as well as watercolor for this piece. I don't have an image of his tattoo yet, still waiting for him to get it… :P

Moving Along
This cute snail I painted with watercolor and defined the lines with ink. I'm really having fun with this style, what other animals should I do?

Butterfly Fly Away by RachaelSelk
Butterfly Fly Away
A bit snowed in, and I got to painting. This one was my second painting today. I had fun with this one. It didn't turn out how I had planned but I still like it.

Lion Roar by RachaelSelk
Lion Roar
So in colorado there is about 7 inches of snow outside and I got cabin fever…but being an artist I decided to play around a bit. This creation happened. I really like how he turned out! I used watercolor and ink for this guy.

If you haven't heard of Inktober, that's ok. I knew nothing about it a few weeks ago myself. A friend had posted on Facebook about the Inktober challenge and I couldn't help myself but to plan to do it. I got geared up, made sure I had enough pens and inks, a fresh notebook, then all I had to do was white knuckle it till October first.

Don't worry, I was doing other art while I was waiting, but I didn't want to do any ink drawings (unless I was doodling) for fear of 'using an idea' before it's time.

Inktober is where you draw one ink drawing a day for the whole month of October. In the end, you will have 31 original drawings, have betting ink experience, and have set a habit to daily draw. Once I realized that was all that there was to it, I got excited fast!

So now my gallery will be busting with ink drawing for a while, and so far (since it's day 2) I am Loving it! I draw in the morning, and then when I'm at work I can't stop thinking about getting to bed and go to sleep so that I can wake up and draw some more!

Hehe…some of us are just meant to be artists. :)

It's not to late to start! I know that you can do every other day if that's easier for you or more convenient. And you can do a once a week if need be. As for me, I am greatly looking forward to see 31 images that slowly progress in my style, quality of work, and all the different things that I can think of!

Have fun this Inktober! I know I will!

I had a fountain pen but then it broke. At the moment I am using prisma color pens. They hold a symilar quality to a fountain pen, but deffinantly different. There's a little bit more control with the prisma color. I'm glad you like my ink drawings! :)
